ResumoA genetic terminology of the ammonoid suture line is defined and some doubtful aspects of this general problem are considered. Study of ontogenetic sutural developments is shown to be most significant in ammonoid classification. Five orders of Ammonoidea (Agoniatitida, Goniatitida, Clymeniida, Ceratitida, and Ammonitida) are recognized and defined.
