Este artigo analisa a forma como o livro As Veias Abertas da America Latina circulou no Brasil. Tendo como principio a dificil relacao entre o Brasil e a America Latina, investigamos aspectos que levaram ao sucesso de uma obra latino-americanista e marxista no Brasil, e algumas questoes pertinentes suscitadas pela sua recepcao academica. Considerando as variadas significacoes de Veias Abertas, discorremos sobre as criticas comuns que se estabeleceram na America Latina nos anos 1960, e que permeiam ate hoje o discurso e o imaginario latinoamericano. ABSTRACT: This article discusses how the book Open Veins of Latin America circulated in Brazil. From the premise of the difficult relationship between Brazil and Latin America, we investigate aspects that took to success a Latin-Americanist and Marxist book, and also some relevant questions roused by its academic reception. Based on its variables meanings, Open Veins allows us to discuss common criticisms that were established in Latin America in the 1960’s that until today permeate the speech and the imaginary Latin-American.
