ResumoLying does not necessary oppose the truth, this is even more the case with children and teenagers. This is proved by Andre Gide’s examples in his autobiography Si Le Grain Ne Meurt and Antoine Doinel’s character in Francois Truffaut’s movie Les Quatre Cents Coups. In both cases, lies tell some truths. Gide through the hesitation about the faked nature of his comedy wonders if he is not cheating himself. Antoine Doinel’s lie appears to show truly that he does not identify anymore with his mother. Antoine Doinel’s and Gide’s lies also have in common the fact that they represent challenges to paternal figures.
