ResumoPROFInet is a concept devised by PROFIBUS International (PI) for either modular machine and plant engineering or distributed IO. Using a plant-wide multivendor engineering for modular machines, commissioning times as well as costs are reduced. PROFInet is based on a common object model which is implemented with the COM/DCOM technology. With version 2 PROFInet is enhanced with real-time communication on Ethernet. This enables the advantages of modular and multi-vendor engineering to be used even in applications with time-critical data transfer requirements. In the next step PROFInet V3 is extended with capabilities for high sophisticated motion control application. A common object model for PROFInet V2 and PROFInet V3 allows slightly migration from V2 to V3.
