Resumo

The Brazilian State has joined the international legal regime for climate protection, since it signed and ratified the 1997 Kyoto Protocol of the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). However, it was only after the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15), in Copenhagen, Denmark, that Brazil has standardized, on a domestic level, the issue of climate change by creating the National Policy on Climate Change, established by Law 12,187. This public policy contains principles, objectives and guidelines for achieving climate protection and created instruments, agencies and set targets for greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction.
