Resumo

The raccoon (Procyon cancrivorus) is a wild carnivore belonging to the Family Proscionidae with great ecological importance due to its role as a seed disperser. Its population decline, justified by the constant human intervention in its habitat, has led to a need for more studies about its reproductive physiology. Therefore, this study aimed to report the semen collection and analysis in a raccoon and thus estimate its reproductive quality. Thereunto, it was performed an electroejaculation procedure and the resulting semen was evaluated by color, motility, vigor, spermatic concentration and morphology. It was observed a motility of 20%, vigor 2, a concentration of 40 x 106 spermatozoa/mL and 22 % of spermatic cells with morphological changes. The results founded may indicate a poor semen quality, even that more conclusive studies with the use of a larger number of animals are needed.
