Resumo

It is widely recognised that we have entered into a period, the Anthropocene, characterised by human existence’s ‘devastating and overwhelming impact on the earth and its systems’ (Louis J Kotze ‘Rethinking global environmental law and governance in the Anthropocene’ (2014) 32(2) Journal of Energy and Natural Resources Law 121 at 121). Kotze (ibid at 123) argues that‘the notion of the Anthropocene challenges us to develop resilience to the impact we are having on what is after all a vulnerable, finite planet, and to respond adequately to the many anthropogenic ecological changes that will, by all counts, severely affect earth and life on earth as we know it’.
