ResumoThe article presents a teaching project accomplished with students from the 8th year of elementary school of the Colegio Pedro II, Campus Centro, throughout the year 2012. Based on the pedagogy of projects frameworks, it underlined the bonds linking study of heritage, teaching of history and documentary research. In addition to that, it took into account the importance of Colegio Pedro II as a historical heritage by highlighting its reference within Brazilian national education. The necessary sources for the implementation of activities set out in this project and the methodological guidance required for the documentary research were found in a partnership approach with the Center for Documentation and Memory of Colegio Pedro II (NUDOM). The Center’s collection has housed the institutional memory of 178 years of history, besides showing its value for the Brazilian Education.
