ResumoThe history of the Department of Sociology of the University of Brasilia can be reconstructed based on three narrative axes: (i) the place of social sciences, within them sociology, in the project to create a public university in the new capital of the country - Brasilia . The University of Brasilia, linked to the Foundation University of Brasilia, had as its first rector the anthropologist Darcy Ribeiro; (ii) the constitution of an academic corpus focused on social change. Thematic disciplines and teachers sought to understand the tensions experienced in a political scenario that announced, on the one hand, the persistence of traditional commands and, on the other hand, the existence of a civil society tuned to a project of change. Acting in this scenario was the challenge of sociology in UnB; and, finally, (iii) the relationship between Brasilia and the ethos of sociology production, the commitments and actions of future generations.
