Abstract The evaluation covered a total of 18 transects in 6 ranges of altitude from 2400 to 3000 m in a montane forest of San Alberto Sector at the Yanachaga Chemillen National Park. In each range were installed 3 trails of 2 x 50 m covering a total area of 0.18 ha. We achieved recording 470 individuals in 25 species and 14 genera, of which five have strictly terrestrial habit: Prescottia Lindl., Gomphichis Lindl., Baskervilla Lindl., Cranichis Sw. and Brachionidium Lindl. According to the Shannon diversity index, the area has a moderate diversity (H‘= 3.60) thanks to the good state of conservation of the forest. The analysis of dissimilarity of the evaluated quadrants shows the notorious formation of three groups which differ from each other by weather conditions, habitat and floristic diversity in each altitude range. Resumen La evaluacion abarco un total de 18 transectos en 6 rangos de altitud desde los 2400 hasta 3000 m dentro de un bosque montano del Sector San Alberto en el Parque Nacional Yanachaga Chemillen. En cada rango se instalaron 3 transectos de 2 x 50 m abarcando una area total de 0.18 ha. Se lograron registrar 470 individuos pertenecientes a la familia Orchidaceae, distribuidos en 25 especies y 14 generos, de los cuales cinco eran de habito terrestre estricto: Prescottia Lindl., Gomphichis Lindl., Baskervilla Lindl., Cranichis Sw. y Brachionidium Lindl. Segun el indice de diversidad de Shannon, la zona tiene una moderada diversidad (H‘=3.60) gracias al buen estado de conservacion de los bosques. El analisis de disimilitud de los cuadrantes evaluados muestra la formacion notoria de tres grupos, los cuales se diferencian entre si por condiciones climaticas, por el habitat y la diversidad floristica en cada rango altitudinal.
