ResumoThere has been considerable controversy in recent years concernng nuclear division in vegetative hyphae of various fungi (1-9). Much of the controversy centers around a failure to find distinct metaphase jlates. Ward and Ciurysek (6) contend that this may be due to stainng of chromosome matrix as well as chromosomes. More refined stainng techniques are needed, since the nuclei of most fungi are relatively mall, and details of nuclear divisions are hard to demonstrate with existing techniques.
