Resumo

Abstract The hitherto unstudied Triassic spilites of the south border of the Grand-Chatelard crystalline massif, France, are described in detail. It is concluded that they represent a lava flow of the composition of basanite, whereas the spilites north of the massif are pyroclastics and tuffs intimately associated with arkoses and limestones. The two spilitic formations may have originated from the same crater.
