ResumoAmong the transport vehicles that have left their mark on American military technology, the Jeep holds a preponderant place. The vehicle with the highest production figure in the Second World War (647,070) became a legend of pragmatic development. The concept moved very fast. The bid for offers went out on 27 June 1940, the first prototype was delivered on 23 September, and conveyor-belt manufacturing began in January 1941. Three companies (American Bantam, Willys Overland, and Ford) shared in the production. After the war, the Jeep added to its success by equipping the armed forces of numerous States. Since 1941, more than three million Jeeps have been produced.
