Resumo

This article addresses issues related to eastern influence on the Muscovite political system between the thirteenth and sixteenth centuries. Despite Russian and Soviet historians’ long-standing interest in this subject, the latter is far from being exhausted. The author presents his own view on such questions as the position of northeastern Russian principalities in the Golden Horde state composition, the reasons for the rise of the Muscovite principality in the fifteenth century, and the status of the Muscovite ruler in the legal system of “Pax Mongolica.” Among other things, he analyzes the establishment of the pomestie system (land granted for service) in Russia, the importance of the conquest of the Volga khanates for the international position of the Muscovite state, and co-regency. In concluding, the author states the great significance of the Golden Horde factor in Russian political history.
