Resumo

Homogenous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine has a potential to achieve both high thermal efficiency and low emissions, while there is a problem of ignition control. It might be possible to control the ignition using DME as ignition improver, because DME has a good self-ignitability and high vaporizability. In this study, heat release characteristics of DME/Air premixed combustion are investigated in a small engine. As the result, the oxidation reaction of DME consists of two stages, low temperature reaction and high temperature reaction. The initiation timing of these reactions predominately depends on the temperature. It was also found that the equivalence ratio for smooth combustion is restricted due to misfire and knocking.
