Pleistocene-Era Hominins and Archaeology

This is a preliminary study that includes fossil and present samples from the Rio Pinturas area, Santa Cruz Province. Through modem analogs we intend to interpret a profile in order to reconstruct Holocene environmental variations in this area of the Patagonic steppe. The analysis from fossil and present pollen data allows us to divide them into two different semidesert subunits, characterized by the presence of various shrubs together with grasses. These subunits were also related to their corresponding cultural levels. This analysis shows there were no important vegetational changes in the area along the comprised period of time.
