The article aims to address two key aspects: the historical production of the literature on tourism in Brazil and its contribution to the development of the knowledge of the area.A descriptive and analytical methodological approach is adopted.Data was gathered from the latest scienti c books on the history of tourism, as well as texts presented in a signi cant conference for this eld (the History and Memory Symposium of Tourism held in July 2011,at the XXVI Symposium of the National Association of History (ANPUH), in São Paulo, Brazil).The ndings suggest, that being recently included in the agenda of historians, tourism inspires new works that follow critical and analytical mechanisms in writing a story-problem, which surpasses chronological approaches often confused as "Tourism History".These ndings also highlight that the exchange between historians and researchers on tourism contributes to promote advances in tourism research, proposes new themes to be investigated and suggests relevant issues to the critical re ection of the tourism phenomenon.
