ResumoThe aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of different extenders on collared peccary epididymal sperm, using the thermoresistance test. Epididymal sperm from 12 animals were recovered using retrograde flushing method, using Tris or powdered coconut water (ACP) based extenders. Samples were cryopreserved, and the thawing was conducted after two weeks. The thermoresistance test conducted at evaluating sperm motility and vigor at 0, 15, 30, 45 and 60 min post-thawing. Immediately after thawing, Tris samples were significantly higher than ACP ones (P < 0.05), but at 15 minutes for vigor and 30 min for motility, no differences were observed between the extenders. The mean values for Tris samples were higher than the ACP samples along the entire test. In conclusion, Tris-based extender provide better results, being the most recommended extender for collared peccary epididymal sperm cryopreservation.
