ResumoThis article proposes the study of the constitutive intertextuality between the sacred and the profane in the novel The Awakening, by Kate Chopin, aiming, specifically, the study of the constitutive intertextuality between the sacred and the profane through the textual dialogic dimension which permeates the chapter – the biblical text of the Last Supper in comparison with the banquet (dinner) offered by the novel protagonist, Edna Pontellier . Based on theoretical conceptions of Bakhtin, Fairclough and Mangueneau regarding the study of intertextuality, the article discusses the importance of the party from the theories of M. Maffesoli and Mircea.
