Notas a la ilustración de un duelo: el suicidio de Melibea en los grabados antiguos de "Celestina"

ResumoespanolEn el clima antificcional de comienzos del XVI, el articulo propone que junto a razones tecnicas, mimeticas o comerciales, la creacion del patron iconografico del suicidio de Melibea en las ediciones ilustradas antiguas de Celestina respondio al deseo de los editores de promover una lectura adoctrinadora frente a las posibles ambivalencias del texto. Tras describir y clasificar los grabados de las ediciones y discutir sus potenciales fuentes, analizamos la escena desde tres ejes: su propia inclusion o no, su modo de presentar el acto y el anadido de personajes ajenos al texto. EnglishWithin the anti-ficcional context of early 16th century Spain, the article proposes that in addition to technical, mimetic and commercial reasons, the iconographic composition created as a pattern for Melibeaʼs suicide in the ancient editions of Celestina responds to the publishers’ attempt to promote an indoctrinating reading for this ambivalent text. After describing and classifying the illustrations and discussing their potential sources, I analyze the scene from three standpoints: its presence or not, the way it represents the action, and the addition of characters that do not appear in the written text.
