Resumo: O autor, que foi Bispo-Auxiliar de Dom Afonso entre 1985 e 1990, traca breve retrato do homenageado. Entre outras caracteristicas, ressalta em Dom Afonso o “amor a Igreja”; o seu costume de “pensar em voz alta”, dialogando com o interlocutor; a sua “paixao por Azambuja”, especialmente pelo Seminario e o Santuario; a sua capacidade de “alegrar-se com os que se alegram”, reconhecendo o bem que outros faziam; enfim, a sua dedicacao integral a missao, tao bem sintetizada pelo seu lema episcopal: “Ide para a Vinha”. Abstract: The author was auxiliary bishop of Afonso’s bishopric from 1985 till 1990 rendering a brief sketch of the honored dignitary. Among the role of distinctive traits some are outstanding and worth to be mentionded, such as his love of the Church, his habit to think aloud while in dialogue with his visitor, his passion for Azambuja, specially the Seminary and the Sanctuary, his gift to be happy with those who are happy, recognizing the good deeds which other people are doing; all in all, his total devotedness to the mission quite well synthetized by the motto as Bishop: “Go to my Vineyard” (Mt 20,4).
