Permanence of the Alloys.(a) Ageing.( b ) Stability of dimensions.( c ) Fracture under prolonged loading ['' season cracking ") (d) Corrosion.(u) The copper-zinc-aluminium system.( b ) The iron-silicon-aluminium system.(c) The magnesium-silicon-aluminium system.( d ) The hardening of Alloys containing magneEium and silicon.SECTION V: Constitution of the Alloys.SECTION I.Introduction.--Thepresent summapy gives a brief account of the principal contents of the Eleventh Report to the Alloys Research Committee. That Report, comprising 256 pages, 92 Figures in the text and 24 Plates, is itself a greatly condensed record of researches covering a period of eight years since the publication of the Tenth Report.Owing to the length of time covered, the effect of war condit ons, and other developments leading to the eniployment of greater resources than those used in connexion with earlier Reports, the results and data recorded are so numerous that representation by graphs and diagrams has been extensively employed. Here it is only possible to refer briefly to the more important features, but in order to facilitate reference to the full Report, page references are given, in brackets, for each item.In presenting the Report, the Authors point out that the researches are the result of the organized work of practically the whole staff of the Sletallurgical Department of the National Physical Laboratory, and that they have received important help from colleagues in other departments of the Laboratory, and from a number of firms and gentlemen connected with the industry.Fully detailed acknowledgments are made (pp.7 to 10 of the Main Report).SECTION 11.CaST ALLOYS. II (a). Alloys for use at Ordinary Temperatures.I n continuation of the researches described in the Tenth Report to the Alloys Research Committee, the properties of the alloys of copper, "zinc, a.nd aluminium have been further examined.
