Abstract: At the beginning of his expose, the author focuses on the context of the Council drawing attention to the local Church in the State of Santa Catarina, in Brazil,, whose first diocese was established in 1908. As for the Council itself emphasis is placed on its major objectives and most of all the ecclesiology of the “People of God”. Similarly, the Council stands out due to its focus on the practice of faith in the Church, not to mention its limitations caused by resistance felt in some areas. A special comment on the “restrictions at the reception of the Council” as well as “retrogressions” in the pursuit of its goals, as opposed to the values newly discovered, the fostering of new aims to be achieved and challenges to be put into practice. As regards the “fruits” of the Council mention is made of exuberant perspectives although they are not perceived as such by the new generations.
