Resumo: Este artigo aprofunda a relação entre saúde pública e Bíblia. O direito àsaúde é universal, reconhecido pela ONU na Declaração Universal dos Direitos Humanos,bem como pela Constituição Brasileira e legislação conexa. A saúde públicadeve, portanto, ser assumida pelo Estado com a efetiva participação da sociedadecivil organizada. A realidade denuncia o quanto ainda este direito é violado. A Palavrade Deus contida na Bíblia cumpre o papel de conscientização a respeito dos compromissosa serem assumidos em favor da vida em todas as suas dimensões. A saúdeé uma bênção divina e está ligada a todos os demais aspectos que caracterizam aintegridade e bem estar da pessoa humana. Os autores resgatam as diversas concepçõesa respeito de saúde-doença ao longo da tradição bíblica, perpassando osmovimentos proféticos e sapienciais. Jesus, pela sua prática, revela que a doença nãoé castigo divino e que há uma relação de causa e efeito entre o sistema sócio-políticoreligiosoe a situação do povo. Movendo-se dentro dos princípios de solidariedade ede misericórdia, Jesus indicou o caminho a ser seguido pela Igreja no cumprimentode sua missão de defesa e promoção da vida digna sem exclusão. A dignidade decada ser humano não é questão secundária. É direito e princípio invioláveis.Abstract: The paper deepens the relation between Public Health and Bible. Right toHealth is universal, acknowledged by the UNO in the Declaration of Human Rights,and also by the Brazilian Constitution. Therefore, Public Health must be taken on bythe State with the participation of the organized civil society. The facts denounce howmuch this right is violated. God’s Word in the Bible awakes the conscience about thecompromises to be taken on favoring Life in all of its dimensions. Health is a divineblessing, and concerns everything that characterizes integrity and well being. Theauthors recuperate the various conceptions about health-illness along biblical tradition,including prophetical and Wisdom movements. Jesus, in his activity, reveals that illnessis not divine punishment and that there is a relation of cause and effect between thesocio-political-religious system and the situation of the people. Moved by solidarityand mercy, Jesus shows the way to be followed by the Church in the fulfillment of hermission of defending and promoting worthy Life without exclusions.
