In this article the author translates and comments on a medieval ballad of wife’s complaint, highlighting the difficulties of translating the literary text and analyzing the rebellious and revolutionary attitude of the female lyrical I, who breaks the expectations of a marital patriarchal system advocated by the Catholic Church and the traditional family affiliations in the Middle Ages context.
