Political metamorphosis in the Brazilian left-wing: From the IV Congress (1954) to the New Politics (1958) of PCB (Brazilian Communist Party) Abstract: This Paper purpose is to analyze the historical and political trajectory of the PCB, focusing specifically on the events that took place between 1954 and 1964, but also paying attention to the phenomenon of political infighting between the different factions inside the PCB and their interpretation of the Brazilian revolution during this period. In order to complete our analytical objectives we will investigate key political events, most of these arising from the political infighting aforementioned, events such as: The changes in the party political strategy after the suicide of president Vargas in 1954; the Party’s new interpretation of the Brazilian revolution, adopted after the PCB’s IV general congress in 1954; The political effects of the ‘preventive coup’ lead by Field Marshall Lott in 1955; The new policies adopted on the aftermath of the XX congress of the Soviet Union’s Communist Party in 1956; The declaration of March 1958. We believe this analysis will provide a reasonable understanding about the PCB’s theories regarding the burguoise Revolution in Brazil and it’s analysis and perceptions about key political moments during the 1950s. Keywords: PCB; Brazilian revolution; Marxism history in Brazil
