The aim of this work was to verify the fit of the exponential distribution to describe the frequency distribution of rainfall amounts in the Parana State. They were studied sets of data for rainfall of 18 weather stations covering all the state: Cambara, Campo Mourao, Cascavel, Curitiba, Foz do Iguacu, Guarapuava, Guaratuba, Guaira, Lapa, Londrina, Maringa, Palmas, Pato Branco, Uniao da Vitoria, Umuarama e Telemaco Borba. The data belong to a eight years period. Except for amounts below 10 mm, the exponential function shown to be suitable to describe and to estimate the distribution of rainfall in the sites studied in Parana State.
