ResumoThis article examines the representation of racial identities in written discourse presented by textbook of Modern Foreign Language (Spanish - English) for High School, which was used in the public schools of Parana. The question we answer in this article is: How do written discourse address the issue of racial identity? The theoretical framework used in this article is based on authors such as Ferreira (2006); Tilio (2008); Rosemberg, Bazilli & Silva (2003); Pinto (1987); Negrao (1987); among others. The methodology used for the analysis was the theoretical framework of documentary analysis (LUDKE & ANDRE, 1986), content analysis and analysis of critical discourse on race / ethnicity (VAN DIJK, 1993). Through this analysis, we concluded that the very materials used for critical teaching of students can strengthen ideologies and racist and discriminatory conceptions.
