Resumo

A series of probabilistic evaluation is performed using geologic formation modeling and grid-based Monte Carlo simulation to estimate geologic carbon dioxide (CO2) storage capacities of target saline formations at a prospective storage site in the Janggi Basin, Korea. The Janggi Conglomerate (Reservoir 1) and the lower member of the Seongdongri Formation (Reservoir 2), both of which consist of conglomerate, sandstone, siltstone, and mudstone, are selected as target saline formations for geologic CO2 storage at the site. The results of the probabilistic evaluation show that the theoretical fluid-phase CO2 storage capacities are significantly higher than the theoretical aqueous-phase CO2 storage capacities in both reservoirs, respectively. However, the effective fluid-phase CO2 storage capacities are nearly equal to the effective aqueous-phase CO2 storage capacities in both reservoirs, respectively. This arises because the aqueous-phase CO2 storage efficiency factors are much higher than the fluid-phase CO2 storage efficiency factors in both reservoirs, respectively.
