ResumoSíntese: Depois de breve alusão à fundação da freguesia de Nossa Senhorados Prazeres, pelo paulista Correia Pinto, em 1767, o autor descreve as circunstânciasda fundação da diocese de Lages em 1927. Na oportunidade, adiocese estendia-se por mais de metade do território catarinense: de Bom Jardimda Serra até a divisa com a Argentina. O extremo Oeste, gravitando em tornode Chapecó, passou para a Prelazia de Palmas em 1943 e tornou-se dioceseautônoma em 1958. Os preparativos para a criação da diocese de Lages começaramem 1925, constituindo-se antes de tudo a Comissão encarregada delevantar o patrimônio necessário. Criada a diocese em 1927, o primeiro Bispo,Dom Daniel Hostin foi nomeado e tomou posse apenas em 1929. Após breveestatística da situação religiosa na época, é descrita com detalhes a primeiraVisita Pastoral do novo Bispo à imensa diocese. Ao longo do artigo, o autorcomenta a profunda religiosidade do povo da região serrana.Abstract: A brief quotation from Correia Pinto, a writer from St. Paulo alluding tothe foundation of the parish of Our Lady of Delight, in 1767, the author describesthe circumstances of the foundation of the diocese of Lages in 1927. At that time,the diocese extended over more than half of the territory of Santa Catarina ,including Bom Jardim da Serra as far as the frontier of Argentina . The far Westcentering on Chapecó and surroundings up to the area of the Prelacy of Palmasin 1943, which was raised the status of an autonomous diocese in 1958. Thepreparatory steps leading to the creation of the diocese of Lages began in 1925when the registrar’s office started to collect the titles of ownership of propertiesbelonging to the future diocese. After the creation of the diocese in 1927, its firstbishop was Daniel Hostin who took over the diocese as late as 1929 due to someunforeseen factors, which caused a delay in his installation. The author makesa detailed account of the religious situation of the various groups of people ofthe mountainous region of the diocese.
