Abstract : In order to understand how the Church in Brazil received the “innovations” of the Second Vatican Council we have to grasp what happened to the minority groups likened to the families of Abraham from of old which prepared and fertilized the soil for the plantation of the seeds of renovation. The text of this article lays stress on three main focal points inherent in the ecclesial renovation shown forth in the decade of the fifties of the last century: a) the liturgical renovation, developed from the Christological and ecclesiological renewal; b) awareness of the social dimension; c) the missionary activity of the Pastoral organizations of each diocese as the contribution to the good of the Church universal.
