ResumoIn 1926, the new, luxurious movie theatres at Rio de Janeiro’s Cinelândia, ownedby Francisco Serrador, import a new attraction from United States: prologues performed onstage, before film screenings. The film magazines Selecta and Cinearte fought against prologues, which represented a peculiar intersection between cinema and theatre, making use of elementsand strategies that will be found in film comedies and “chanchadas” produced from the 1930’son.
