Resumo

Brazil houses 221 schools of dentistry, 56 of those in public universities (maintained by the state) and 165 in private institutions. Brazil has 22 dental Specialties recognized by the Federal Council of Dentistry. Oral pathology was recognized as a specialty in 1971, and there are currently 380 registered oral pathology specialists. Stomatology (oral medicine) was recognized as a specialty in 1992 and has 808 registered members. 1 CFO - Federal Council of Dentistry http://cfo.org.brDate accessed: October , 2016 Google Scholar In Brazil, there are 166 graduate programs (MSc and PhD degrees) in the various branches of Dentistry, and 2 institutions offer specific courses in oral medicine and oral pathology (School of Dentistry, University of Rio Grande do Norte – UFRN and Piracicaba Dental School, State University of Campinas – FOP –UNICAMP).
