Resumo

Pejibaye palm has been cultivated in Sao Paulo State for rational heart-of-palm production. In 2000, symptoms of trunk rot and leaf yellowing caused by Phytophthora were observed on plants, in field conditions, in Mogi Mirim County. The pathogenicity of an isolate was tested in plants with two and six months of age, respectively in laboratory and greenhouse. The original symptoms observed in diseased pejibaye plants were reproduced, and the isolate was identified as Phytophthora palmivora (Butler) Butler (1919).
