This article shows part of the research results presented in the Master’s dissertation A sobrevivência das imagens de Amazônia na literatura e no jornalismo de revista (Silva Júnior, 2012) and it has three main purposes: (i) to identify what Amazon images are built by Manchete magazine, published in the 1980s (June, 1983 and September, 1989); (ii) to demonstrate connections between the images produced by the journalistic language and literary narratives, especially the records found in the works À margem da história (Cunha, 1999 [1909]), A selva (Castro, 1972 [1930]), Contos Amazônicos (Sousa, 2005 [1893]), Cinzas do Norte (Hatoum, 2005), and (iii) to indicate how journalism triggers these images to build the current narratives. The result of the studies indicates relations between the Amazon images produced by magazine journalism and literature, which were published by Manchete in the 1980s. This study is grounded in both theories of Benjamin (2011) and Didi-Huberman (2006, 2010, 2011) about the survival of images, and in dialogic conceptions of language of Bakhtin (2011).Keywords: Amazon images, narrative journalism, language, literature, magazine journalism.
