ResumoThis article aims to discuss media literacy as a basis for understanding and critically assessing the information provided by the media, as well as the use of this information by citizens and the production of their own content, in defense and guarantee of rights, pointing to the importance of their presence in the basic education. For that, the case of Folha Online's coverage of the students' movement against the reorganization of public schools in Sao Paulo was chosen, along with a video posted on the fan page of the movement Don’t Close My School, in which a student corrects the reporter to the correct term is occupation and not invasion. This video had repercussions in the networks raising discussions and problematizations about the term used by the mainstream media, leading to a direct questioning to Folha Online that started to use the term occupation after the event.
