ResumoThis article examines retrospectively the opinion of the newspapers Correio do Povo (CP) and Zero Hora (ZH) in relation to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, based on the cartographic production of the vehicles. The analysis corpus is composed of 96 cartoons published during the 32 days that comprised the event. Considering the historical context and the editorial line of the vehicles, the observation of cartoons - distributed in two categories of analysis - goes beyond sports coverage and reveals the political positions of both vehicles. The result points to the ideologization of the World Cup by the main printed newspaper of the State: most of the pieces of ZH (53%) fall into the Political category while 79% of the cartoons of the CP bet on regionalism and the use of stereotypes within the Category Sport. A coherent line of challenge to the Dilma Rousseff Government in its chargist production is perceived in the agenda of ZH.
