Resumo: São João Maria Vianney, o “Cura d´Ars”, destacou-se pelo testemunhoconvincente do seu amor a Deus, ao ser humano, à Igreja. Tendo recebido sólidaformação cristã em sua família, soube aprofundar, viver e transmitir os valoresda fé cristã em seu tempo. Seus esforços na busca de santidade foram exemplarese superaram as carências na formação teológica intelectual, dando-lheprofundas convicções na compreensão do que é ser cristão e ser Igreja. Comajuda dos escritos de Santo Afonso de Ligório, superou tendências jansenistas,desenvolvendo a confiança no amor de Deus, vencendo os problemas de saúdee tornando-se verdadeiro pastor e guia espiritual dos cristãos de seu tempo, dopresente e do futuro. Por ter desenvolvido de modo exemplar o seu ministério depresbítero, o Papa Bento XVI o declarou patrono dos presbíteros, e lembrandoos 150 anos de sua morte a Igreja universal celebra agora o Ano Sacerdotal.Abstract: Saint John Vianney, a parish priest in the town of Ars was renownedfor great skill in helping penitents and counseling people who devoutly acceptedhis advice for growth in spiritual life, in the love of God and the Church. After asolid Christian formation in his family he acquired a solid basis for a vivid senseand witness to the values of the Christian faith in his time. His efforts in pursuit ofholiness were exemplary and overcame all deficiencies in intellectual formationinstilling in his heart unshakable convictions in his understanding of being a trueChristian and belonging to the Church. Inspired by the books of Saint AlphonsusLiguori he overcame Jansenistic tendencies and developed a deep-seated trustin God, facing courageously problems of poor health and becoming a true pastorand spiritual guide of Christians in his time and age, in the present and the future.Since he turned out to be an exemplary role-model of the priestly ministryPope Benedict XVI proclaimed him as patron of the priests, commemoratingthe 150th year after his death as the year dedicated to the Priesthood by theUniversal Church.
