ResumoSusannah Spurgeon (1832–1903) was married to the renowned London Baptist preacher, Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834–1892). Fully supportive of his work, she organised a Book Fund which sent his books and sermons around the world to impoverished ministers. She often compared the growth of the fund to a lemon tree which she had planted and used stories about it to inspire giving to the fund. This article traces the growth of the fund, highlights the work of Susannah Spurgeon and suggests that much of C.H. Spurgeon’s world-wide fame may be traced to the efforts of what became known as Mrs C.H. Spurgeon’s Book Fund
