ResumoAdjacent segment disease can be a clinically significant complication following lumbar spinal arthrodesis. This disease is traditionally addressed surgically via a posterior approach, which can be associated with significant morbidity and complication. In recent years, the minimally invasive lateral approach has evolved as an effective surgical option for arthrodesis in the lumbar spine. We detail our use of this approach as an alternative treatment for adjacent segment disease, as it allows for placement of a large interbody graft and indirect decompression of the adjacent segment.
