Resumo

The life cycle ofSpaethk'l/a (ris/is (Boh.), a beetie which feeds on leaves ofoil palni (Elaeis (7uineensis), was about 56 days, under !aboratoiy conditions.Natural enernies of S. tristis, collected frorn an oil paini plantation in the right hank of the Urubu river, Amazonas, were: fungi Paecilornvces farino.vus(Samson & Evans) and Metarhiziu,n sp.parasiting larvae and adults, respectivcly, and an unidentified species of Chalcididae (Hymenoptera), parasiting the larvae.The leaf damage caused by S. tristis is aggravated by the infection of the fungus Peslalotiopsisguepini(Desm.) Steyaert in wounds made by this insect.
