Resumo

This writing verify the convergence of religion presented by the lyrical poems of O Guardador de Rebanhos and religiosity appointed by Moses Espirito Santo (1990) as one that is common to Portuguese provincial population. Thus, they analyze passages in the Christian deities are deconstructed or supplanted by elements of nature or pagan idols, with the emphasis the study of the eighth poem, in which we are shown a picture of a Jesus transformed into Eternal Child. Supported by Abreu (2004), Centeno (1993), Espirito Santo (1990) and Souki (2006) noted that the work assumes anticlerical character by deconstructing the foundations of the Catholic Church through the allegorization of its symbols, since Caeiro significance to Catholics idols from a religious syncretism.
