No ano de 2003, a Congregação dos Padres do Sagrado Coraçãode Jesus, também conhecidos como Dehonianos (de seu fundador, Pe. LeãoJoão Dehon), festejou o centenário de sua presença e atuação no Sul doBrasil, especialmente em Santa Catarina. Em comemoração a esse evento, oautor publicou um livro, abordando os dez anos iniciais desta Congregação emnosso país. O artigo resume os dados obtidos na consulta às cartas e relatosdos primeiros missionários, cerca de duas dezenas deles, vindos da Alemanhaentre 1903 e 1913. Pela diversidade dos assuntos e o testemunho dasexperiências, esses documentos são uma preciosa fonte de informação para oconhecimento da história da Igreja no Estado, no início do século XX. Seuconteúdo reflete o cotidiano, os costumes, o modo de ser e de viver da populaçãopor eles atendida, tanto nas áreas de colonização alemã, italiana e polonesa,como nas de povoamento luso-açoriano do litoral. Em muitas localidades, essesmissionários foram os protagonistas da renovação e da estruturação da Igrejaem Santa Catarina.Abstract: In the year 2003, the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus,also known as “Dehonians” (from their founder, Léon Jean Dehon), celebratedthe centennial of their presence and actuation in the south of Brasil, especiallyin Santa Catarina. Commemorating this event, the author published a book,describing the 10 initial years of this Congregation in our country. The articlesummarizes the information collected from the letters and reports of the firstmissionaries, about twenty of them, who came from Germany between 1903and 1913. Because of the diversity of their subjects and the testimony of theexperiences, these documents are a precious source of information for theknowledge of the history of the church in our State in the beginning of the XXthcentury. Their contents reflect the everyday life, the habits, the way of beingand living of the population attended by them, so much in the areas of German,Italian and Polish colonization, as in those of Luso-açorian settling in the coastline.In many places, these missionaries were the protagonists of the renovationand structuration of the church in Santa Catarina.
