O elenco de passagens relevantes do AT e NT oferece uma vista deconjunto dos diversos aspectos do sofrimento dos deficientes físicos.Começando com a mensagem central da Bíblia sobre a dignidade da pessoahumana, que deve ser reconhecida até mesmo nos enfermos, se aborda ofator marcante do Povo de Deus em sua organização como comunidade de fée o interesse no indivíduo como membro nela inserido. Dois Salmos merecemdestaque, porque portadores de deficiência estão presentes na liturgia eexpressam suas preces na oração comunitária. Dois personagens bíblicosestão em relevo, o pai de Tobias, e Jó, em luta para superar o sofrimento. Ostextos do NT abordam o problema da causalidade recíproca entre sofrimentoe pecado, como também da influência do demônio na enfermidade, que Jesussoluciona com a intervenção divina através dos milagres.Abstract: Relevant passages from the Old and New Testament offer acomprehensive view of people from all ages suffering from some kinds of diseaseor disablement. At the outset the reader’s attention is drawn to the centralmessage of the Bible about the dignity of the human person which is to beupheld in spite of severe disablement. Special emphasis is given to theorganization of the People of God as a community of faith and the importancegiven to the individual due to his membership. Two Psalms are being analyzedbecause disabled people are spokesmen of a dramatic appeal for recognitionin the presence of the faith community. Two important figures in the Bible suchas the father of Tobias and Job are quoted to illustrate their attempt to getrelieve of their morbid conditions. Texts of the NT are cited as eloquent proofsto deny the origin of suffering due to personal sins and any possible influence ofdemons causing illness which is being demonstrated in the miracles of Jesusexpelling the demons and curing the sick.
