ResumoThis article questions the identification of a miniature by Christoph Platzer as a portrait of the young George Frideric Handel c.1710. The miniature was purchased in 1938 by the city of Halle an der Saale for a planned museum in Handel’s birthplace, but was subsequently lost. The article traces the provenance of the miniature to the collection of Francis Wellesley (1865–1935) and argues that the art historian George. C. Williamson and the Handel enthusiast Newman Flower identified it as a portrait of Handel.
