ResumoIn several countries, organized screening programs have led to a reduction in breast cancer mortality.[1] [2] In Brazil, despite all efforts, there has been an increase in the incidence of and mortality associated with breast cancer.[3] [4] [5] One peculiarity of breast cancer in Brazil and in other developing countries is that its incidence in women between 40 and 50 years of age is proportionately higher than that reported for developed countries.[6] [7] [8]
