Resumo

It is difficult to characterize a text like Jorge Zalamea’s The Great Burundun-Burunda is Dead, as it is a work that refuses to be pinned down and that questions the conventional established frontiers of literary genres. Readers approaching this book for the first time might find themselves surprised at the way it mixes elements from different genres, at its grotesque characters and the author’s use of language. It is a text that continues to be of great interest, not only because of the way it illustrates the political tensions that marked a particular period of Colombian history but also because of its esthetic and linguistic ambition and the way it invites readers to reflect on the power of language.
