The paper presents an overview of the sports chronicles of the Jornal dos Sports, published in the 1950s.The period provides a path of consolidation of the brazilian sporting chronicle that since the previous decade has shown signs that this narrative style became an essential element to printed journalism, mainly because of the «competition» with the radio.In this way, the subjectivity and the uses of the feelings in the texts of these authors created specific identity bonds of these chroniclers with the newspaper in question and of this with their respective readers.The Jornal dos Sports, then, allowed the formation of a variety of narrative styles and social and professional backgrounds of its chroniclers, making the journal itself a peculiar vehicle in the mission to publicize and create representations about the sport in general (especially the football) and the city of Rio de Janeiro.
