ResumoAnna NASIŁOWSKA The Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Warszawa) Aesthetics, biology, and gender The purpose behind a new body of gender-studies terms is to free interpretations from any ideological pre-assumptions. The meaning of ‘gender’ is a distance toward the notion of nature with which a depiction of determination is associated. Using Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska, the female poet in the Polish literature of the former half of 20th century, as an example, Nasilowska shows the ways in which the notion of nature in Pawlikowska’s poetry is subject to aesthetisation, getting combined as it is with creativity and disinterested creation of beauty.
