Este trabalho foi desenvolvido com o intuito de produzir um texto que reúna algumas informações sobre a evolução histórica do conceito de Limite, bem como a formalização de seu conceito. Foi pesquisado como esse conceito evoluiu da intuição até a formalidade, e como sua representação se desenvolveu ao longo da história. Além disso, buscou-se levantar os pesquisadores que mais contribuíram para a evolução do conceito de Limite e como o fizeram. A fim de atender aos objetivos propostos, realizou-se um levantamento bibliográfico sobre a História da Matemática e o Estudo do Cálculo, em livros específicos. O Limite é um conceito antigo, suas noções mais básicas estão presentes na Grécia Antiga, porém seu maior desenvolvimento aconteceu no século XVII e após isso foi sendo aprimorado, adquirindo rigor. Na atualidade, algumas notações são as mesmas que surgiram no século XVII com as de derivada e integral.Palavras Chave: Infinitésimos. Infinito. Limite.AbstractA historical contextualization about limits This work was developed with the purpose of producing a text that gathers some information about the historical evolution of the concept of Limit, as well as the formalization of its concept. It was researched how this concept evolved from intuition to formality, and how its representation evolved throughout history. In addition, we sought to raise the researchers who contributed most to the evolution of the concept of Limit and how they did it. In order to meet the proposed objectives, a bibliographic survey was carried out on the History of Mathematics and the Study of Calculus in specific books. The Limit is an old concept, its most basic notions are present in Ancient Greece, but its greater development happened in century XVII and after that it was being improved, acquiring rigor. At present, some notations are the same ones that appeared in century XVII with those of derived and integral.Keywords: Infinitesimal, Infinity, Limit.
